Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin Joins New Law Firm

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said this week that his “top priority” is to be mayor of Aurora, despite joining a law firm opening a new office in Oak Brook.

“My main priority is to be mayor and do a good job,” Irvin said. “I’ve always been associated with a law firm, this one is just different.”

The mayor said he disbanded his association with his former firm in Aurora to join Castle Law, which is based in Joliet but is opening a new DuPage County office in Oak Brook, where Irvin would be based. The company also has a Hoffman Estates office.

One of Castle Law’s partners and owners is attorney Gary K. Davidson, with whom Irvin studied law at Northern Illinois University.

“It just seemed like a good fit,” Irvin said.

The company will hold a grand opening of the Castle Law DuPage office on November 16 at 600 Enterprise Drive in Oak Brook.

News of the event and Irvin joining the company has become a hot topic on social media, with people speculating on what it means for Irvin’s future.

But Irvin said this week that he had always been associated with a law firm and that he wanted to remain affiliated with a law firm, even if he was not actively involved in business, and that joining Castle Law was “preparing for the future”, anyway. .

Irvin said he could still run for a third term as mayor in 2025, or could run for something else at some point. This year, he ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for governor.

Before being elected mayor in 2017, he served for 10 years as a city councilor in Aurora. He was re-elected mayor in 2021.

“I love to serve, whether as mayor or when I was a councilor – that’s my personality,” he said.

Castle Law is one of Illinois’ top real estate transaction law firms, and Irvin said it was the kind of law he practiced before doing criminal law with his old firm.

According to the firm’s website, they not only handle real estate, but also tax and estate planning, litigation, business law, and landlord-tenant law. Several of their attorneys also work as prosecutors for the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
